Gran Turismo 2 featured many unique and interesting cars when it debuted in 1999. And the Dodge Stratus ES. To be fair, Polyphony Digital also included the Dodge Intrepid, which featured a kinda cool race modified version. The turn of the millennium was a weird time.

But it gets better: The Stratus ES was also featured in the Gran Turismo 2 intro video ( around the 1:20 mark ).

And if you thought the Stratus was confined to Gran Turismo 2, then you would be mistaken. While not driveable, you’ve probably seen the Stratus many times in Gran Turismo 3...

That’s right, the Stratus can be found in the Home Menu - with its hood up. Gran Turismo really is an accurate simulation!

You might laugh, but back when they came out the cloud cars, LH, and Neon were fairly well-praised for their handling.  their market success was what made Chrysler such an attractive takeover target for Daimler to come in and destroy.

We had a 96 Stratus. It was not a terrible car. Certainly lots of room inside, but the bucket seats sucked.

A racing Stratus can be an awesome car!

My ex-stepdad had a Neon so my first introduction to them was that it was a dumpy car that should be mocked. Only recently did I find out a-la Jack Baruch that they are desirable, cool, and quite the performance bundle for what they are.

As much hate as the Stratus gets, they are quite good cars in reality. The V6s are snappy while being efficient, the trans adapts to driver meaning it can be soft when needed or lightning quick depending on who’s behind the wheel, they handled amazing for a basic sedan, and their interiors were decent places to spend time.

The 2nd gens take these even further with better interior, a quicker adapting trans, and a more powerful V6.

This is all I think about at the mention of a dodge stratus

They hold up very well, no visible wear after 200k+ miles, but there’s probably more comfortable places to be on long road trips.

Young Me was astonished that they would bother to render a racing upgrade of the Intrepid. Until I plopped down 80,000 credits and realized it was a gotdang funny car!

That and the Mark Martin liveried SHO were the biggest "I can't believe they actually put that in the game" for me.

Loved our stratus thing held up forever had over 265k miles on it. Interior was a little bland but had lots of room. Rode nice. V6 had pep in it and other than the bland interior that the plastic liked to break on. It was a solid and great learning car! Back seats were comfy and spacious for doing anatomy homework in. Miss that car.
